Scholarships

The Iowa Health Information Management Association recognizes the importance of promoting the excellence of students entering the health information management profession.

Each year, the Iowa Health Information Management Association awards scholarships to one or more individuals who have achieved certain educational goals in the field of health information management. Total dollars budgeted for scholarships for 2012 is $2500.

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible for this scholarship:

  • Enrolled in an AHIMA approved HIT/Associate Degree program, eligible in the last year of the program.

  • Enrolled in an AHIMA approved HIA/HIM program, eligible in the last half of the program.

  • An RHIT progressing to RHIA in an AHIMA approved HIA/HIM program, or a health information related field.

  • A student enrolled in an approved Master’s degree program in a health career field related to the health information management profession.

  • A student enrolled in an AHIMA approved Coding Certificate program that follows AHIMA model curriculum

  • The student must be enrolled as a fulltime or part time student as defined by the program.

  • The student may receive this award only one time per level of degree.

  • Academic/grade record of not less that 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Member of the American Health Information Management Association with Component State Association designated as Iowa.

  • A United States Citizen

Scholarship information must be received no later than February 10, 2012. The Scholarship Committee made up of several IaHIMA Board Members will be doing the final evaluations and selection of the scholarship winners.
