The Director of Health Information Management plans and directs the operation of the Health Information Department, including the Coding and Medical Transcription areas. Maintains health information records in compliance with state laws, Joint Commission requirements, third party payers and hospital policies. Maintains necessary statistics required for State, Federal and other regulatory agencies. Acts as a resource for health information issues related to third party payers. Serves as the hospital’s lead resource for issues relating to record retention and record destruction requirements. Coordinates functions between hospital units, acts as a resource, maintains support services for medical staff quality improvement activities and ensures confidentiality of patient information. Maintains the department’s operating budget, develops goals and objectives and ensures that services are provided in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of Mercy Medical Center. Selects, develops and maintains a team of competent staff.
Minimum Experience includes:
Two to three years’ experience in all phases of health information management preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and management abilities. Prefer 1+ years experience in a leadership role. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), GroupWise, educational software (i.e. HealthStream), Intranet, electronic medical record, and use of various reporting tools. Experience with and understanding of budgeting. Knowledge of and understanding of the legal issues as it relates to health information management.
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management Administration or related field.
RHT (Accreditation as a Registered Health Information Management Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Adminsitration); Member of AHIMA.
